1. The Right to Refuse & Disqualify
- Our Final Call: Ideas are judged on a case-by-case basis. We reserve the right to refuse any application, and we do not have to provide a reason for rejection.
- Funding: We reserve the right to disqualify any application, freeze funds, or demand immediate repayment of disbursed funds if a project violates these terms, engages in unlawful behavior, or breaches safety/ethical standards.
2. Eligibility and Grade Requirements
- The Target Group: This grant program is designed for and primarily open to students currently enrolled in Grades 6 through 11.
- Exceptions: Submissions from students outside this grade range are not automatically accepted, but may be considered on a case-by-case basis at our discretion. If you are outside grades 6–11 and want to apply, please email us first to pitch why you're ready for the program!
3. Instant Disqualification Ideas
The following proposals will be automatically rejected:
- Violation of the law: Creating, working with or distributing weapons, illicit drugs, vapes or anything illegal.
- Weapons: The creation of arms, explosives, or any weapon/tool with the potential for violence.
- Living Beings: Any experiment involving a living creature (human or animal) that risks pain, injury, or death.
- Pathogens: Any work involving petri dish cultures, bacteria, fungi, or viruses, unless the applicant proves they are using proper, approved safety precautions.
- Dangerous Tools: Any experiments using heavy-duty tools that could cause serious injury or death, unless a parent provides explicit written consent and supervision (details provided upon approval).
- Cybercrime: Any tools built for the purpose of hacking, breaking in, data breaching, or other violations of the law.
- Plagiarism: Any plagiarism, intellectual theft, or AI-generated submissions will be automatically disqualified. (Note: The original idea remains yours even after submitting!)
- Hate Speech: Any submissions promoting racism, homophobia or any type of xenophobia will be automatically disqualified.
4. Application Rules & Submissions
- Parental Sign-Off: If a parent/guardian does not agree to our terms and conditions, the application will be rejected.
- One at a Time: You can submit multiple proposals, but only one project can be active and funded at a time per person.
- No Spammers: Duplicate submissions will be automatically disqualified. (Email us if you accidentally hit submit twice!)
- The Queue: We may occasionally place your application in a review queue. Being in the queue does not guarantee approval.
- Blacklists: Trying to scrape, hack, or cause harm to our site, or repeatedly submitting spam/violent ideas, will result in an immediate blacklist. This blocks future idea submissions and future executive positions with us.
5. Money & Receipt Rules
- Stick to the Budget: The amount approved in your application is the maximum amount we will reimburse (up to $100).
- Phased Approvals & Milestones: We don't hand out lump sums upfront. Once your project is given the green light, you purchase supplies as needed for your current project phase. To get reimbursed and unlock the green light for the next phase, you mush upload valid itemized receipts along with photos or updates showing your current project status.
- No "Buy and Quit": Because funding is paid out in phases, you cannot buy expensive bulk supplies for the whole project upfront (e.g., buying ten expensive microcontrollers at once), quit early, and expect full reimbursement for uncompleted or abandoned work. If you can't finish your project, just notify us via email! You won't be penalized, but we cannot issue reimbursement for unspent or uncompleted work.
- Small Changes Happen: If a small item costs a few dollars more than expected (e.g., tax or minor price shifts), that’s okay as long as your total spending stays at or below your approved grant amount.
- Major Changes Need Permission: If a key material turns out to be way more expensive than planned, you must email us to ask for approval before you buy it. If you buy it without asking, we will only reimburse the originally approved amount.
- Receipt Standards: We only reimburse items listed in your approved application backed up by a valid store receipt. The receipt must show an itemized list of purchased items. Standard credit card slips that only show a total will not be accepted.
- No Cash Out / Store Returns: Leftover items can be reused by the student or donated. However, they cannot be returned to the original store for cash.
- No Double-Dipping: While your project can be used for other things (like a school assignment or science fair), getting reimbursed by another organization for the exact same expenses is strictly forbidden and will cause automatic disqualification.
6. Media Rights & Program Changes
- Promotions: By applying, you grant us permission to use photos, videos, and descriptions of the student's project for promotional, educational, and public display purposes.
- Right to Update: We reserve the right to modify, update, or change these Terms and Conditions at any time. Any changes will take effect immediately upon posting to our website or application portal.
- Our Final Call: We reserve the right to suspend, modify, or terminate the grant program, or revoke funding approval at any time if circumstances require it.
